Obituary for JARAMILLO

Victoria J., 70, passed away on October 16, 2009. She was born on October 2, 1939, and was a lifelong resident of Isleta Pueblo. Victoria is survived by her husband, Joseph L. Jaramillo of Isleta Pueblo as well as her mother, Margaret Jojola; brother, Michael Jojola and wife Pat; Carol Jiron and husband Pete; numerous special nephews and a niece. Victoria was preceded in death by her father, former Isleta Governor Abie Jojola. Victoria was a 1959 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Albuquerque. Victoria was an extraordinary individual, a woman of character, charm, intelligence, beauty and courage. She lived a good life and a remarkable one at that. She was retired from Isleta Casino as Marketing Director; and was employed for many years in Las Vegas, Nevada where she made many friends and business associates. She later performed volunteer work with the Hispano Chamber of Commerce. She was selected by former Santa Fe Mayor Larry Delgado to represent the Native American community as a goodwill ambassador on a State trip to China in 1998. She later opened and operated the Mercado Market in Isleta Pueblo, specializing in sales of Native American apparel in addition to Native Arts and Crafts. She and her husband Joe traveled extensively within the past few years throughout the country and Canada. Funeral services were held on October 17, 2009 at St. Augustine Church in Isleta Pueblo with interment in the local cemetery. The family wishes to thank the many friends and relatives whose sympathy and thoughtfulness will always be remembered and deeply appreciated, in particular those who served as caregivers during her last days. The family also wishes to thank Heartland Hospice in addition to Dr. Denny Jones and the staff at the UNM Cancer Center for their care and concern during her illness.
