Obituary for GIOMI

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday November 12, 2009

Esma Anne Giomi passed after a long illness which she endured with patience and grace, always continuing to support those caring for her. She was born in Montrose, Colorado and never lost her love for her first home. Esma attended UNM and majored in English. She was married to her beloved husband, James in 1946 and celebrated more than 50 years of marriage before his death in 2003. Her goal in life was to have a family and help them to be happy. She accomplished this with profound success. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; and by her daughter, Debra. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Thelma Giomi; nieces and nephews; and her special cousin, Caroline Williams and dear friends, many of whom she embraced as family. The family would like to acknowledge the caregivers from Footprints Homecare, who were exceptional in their care and compassion especially Teresa Quijada, Brenda Martinez and Becky Garrett. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 13, 2009, 10:30 a.m., at Mount Calvary Mausoleum Chapel, 1900 Edith NE with entombment to follow. A Celebration of Esma's life will be held in March 2010. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alliance for Lupus Research, 28 West 44th Street, Suite 501, New York, NY 10036 or The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10022.
