Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Monday October 26, 2009

Grant Earl Montgomery, 80, went to be with his Lord on Friday, October 23, 2009. Grant was born in Albuquerque on October 7, 1929. He graduated from Albuquerque High School, Class of 1947. After graduating from UNM with a degree in electrical engineering, Grant was employed at Sandia Labs from 1951 until 1953. He served 2 years in the United States Air Force, from 1953-1955, returning to Albuquerque where he taught math at Jefferson Junior High until 1959. In 1957 Grant married Gladys (Teddy) Baer. They established their home in Cedar Crest where they raised two sons and became an integral part of the East Mountain community for 52 years. In 1960, Grant built Cedar Crest Hardware and operated the store for 8 1/2 years. He began another business, Montgomery Electric, in 1970, continuing until the day he died on his way to work. Grant was the proverbial jack-of-all-trades but he was master of many, enjoying the challenge of solving most any problem. It was a true Gift. He quickly established himself as the "go to guy" in the Cedar Crest area. Grant was a generous man who served the community as unto the Lord. There is no end to the people who have known his kindness. Soft spoken, gentle natured and full of grace, Grant knew no stranger. His commitment to the Lord was exemplified through his active membership at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, a charter member. He loved to sing and was a charter member of the choir as well. He also served the Lord at Immanuel in the offices of elder, deacon and trustee. Along with his wife, Teddy, Grant is survived by son, Mark, his wife Pat and children, Erin, Isaac and Levi; son, Steve, and his wife Antoinette, and children, James, Kevin, and Shannon, a younger brother, Mike, his wife Mavis and son, Rob. A memorial service to celebrate Grant's life is planned for Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle Blvd. SE. 87106. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Please visit our online guestbook for Mr. Montgomery at www.RememberTheirStory.com French 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE (505) 275-3500
