Obituary for ELERY

Joseph Leo (June) Elery departed this life after a brief illness at the VA Medical Center on Monday, October 19, 2009. Joseph was born October 5, 1936 in Springfield, KY to Joseph Leon and Hattie Weathers Elery. Upon the passing of his mother in September, 1944, Joseph was reared by his Paternal Grandparents, the late Sam and Mamie Edelen Elery. Joseph was a 1954 graduate of Rosenwald High School, where he was also the Salutatorian. Joseph was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired after 23 years of service. He was an Air Traffic Controller during the Korean and Vietnam eras. Joseph was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Springfield, KY and later united with The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Albuquerque. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Elery, August 10, 1993 and Hattie Weathers Elery, September, 1944; and a sister, Rose Marie Stone, August 10, 2007. Joseph leaves to cherish his memories: son, Ivan (Brigeda) Elery of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Maria (Eddie, Jr.) Corley of Sandia Park, NM.; seven grandchildren; Desiree, Francesca and Dominic Elery; Ivana, Carmen, Vivica and Vianca Corley; step-mother, Frances Elery, Springfield, KY; two brothers: Billy (Diana) Elery and Reggie (Shayla) Elery, both of Lexington, KY; seven sisters: Barbara Yarbrough, Madison, IN; Martina (Bobby) Burton, Danville, KY; Frances (William) Brazley and Carolyn Elery, both of Louisville, KY; Cecelia (Larry) Norwood, Port St. Lucia, FL; Rita Kelly, Cleveland, OH and Martha (Rick) Hall of Georgetown, KY; the mother of his children, Maria Elery Montano, Socorro, NM; an Aunt, Leora Graves and a brother-in-law, Lucian Stone, Springfield, KY; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Rosary will be recited Monday, October 26, 2009, 8:00 a.m. followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 9:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Road, NE.
