Amy Ortiz, 69, resident of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, October 12, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Romeo Ortiz; sons, Anthony Ortiz and wife, Karen, and Reuben Ortiz; grandchildren, Brandon and Leslie Ortiz, and Jade and Gabriel Ortiz; siblings, Olivia Rendon and husband, Rudy, Arturo Portillo and wife, Nancy, Lourdes Barela and husband, George, Ricardo Portillo and wife, Sheila, Estevan Portillo and Anna, JoAnn Cruzan, Patricio Portillo and Anabella, Lorenzo Portillo and wife, Lenora, Tomas Portillo and wife, Lisa, Rogerio Portillo and wife, Karen, and Anselmo Portillo and wife, Jackie; and beloved pet, "Ringo". She was preceded in death by her parents, Rogerio and Viola Portillo. Amy was born in Santa Fe and graduated from Santa Fe High School. She was employed for the State of New Mexico from 1959 to 1964. Amy was the Fiesta Princess of Santa Fe Fiestas. She met Romeo "Sonny" in 1961. She moved to Los Angeles in 1964 and worked for the LA Water and Power Authority while Romeo was in the Navy. They married in April of 1967. In 1968 they moved back to Albuquerque where they raised their family. Amy worked for and retired from the University of New Mexico. She loved music and dancing with her star, Sonny, as well as spending time with her family, especially in the outdoors. Rosary will be recited Thursday, October 15, 2009, 6:00 p.m., at Cristo Rey Church, Upper Canyon Road, Santa Fe. Rosary will be recited Friday, October 16, 2009, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 17, 2009, 9:00 a.m. at Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School NE. Pallbearers will be John Gurule, Ray Vigil, Matthew Cruzan, Gabriel Ortiz, Jade Ortiz, Diego Ortiz, Andre Ortiz and Angelica Portillo. Cremation will follow services.
