Obituary for SOLED

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday October 07, 2009

Risa Soled (nee Usherson) born January 24, 1930, died on October 6, 2009 at age 79. Shoshana bat Leah v'Avraham, was true to her name. Shoshana means, "flower" and Risa means, "to laugh". She radiated joy and made everyone smile. Youngest child of Leah and Abraham, her older brothers Leon, Herbert, and Murray adored her. Harry, her beloved husband of 53 years, was her best friend and companion. They were inseparable and forever young lovers. Loving, warm, patient, generous, caring, nurturing-this was Risa-devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. One never heard an unkind word. She saw the best in others and overlooked the negative. She bravely dealt with the untimely death of her youngest son, Ronald, and the passing of her soul mate, Harry. She was a true Aishet Chayil - a Woman of Valor. Risa grew up in the Midwood section of Brooklyn where she attended the Yeshivah of Flatbush elementary school and Midwood High School. She raised her family there and was active in Hadassah and other Jewish charitable organizations while raising her three children - Teri, Martin and Ronald. Upon retirement, she and Harry moved to Wellington, Florida and after Harry's death, Risa moved to Calabasas, California, her final home with son Martin and daughter-in-law Judy. Risa (Usherson) Soled, is survived by daughter Teri and son-in-law Steve Harper; son Martin and daughter-in-law Judy to whom she was the mother Judy never had; granddaughter Marla and husband Adam Lewkoski; brother Herbert Usherson; and brother-in-law Alex Soled. She is also survived by nieces Sandi, Esther, Judy, Joyce, Sharon and Sheila; as well as nephews Arthur, Robert and Fred. A graveside funeral will be held at the Young Israel section of Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m.
