Obituary for HILL

Thomas D. Hill, 89, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at his home in Albuquerque. Hill was born to Edith Huntley Walker and Harry Conant Hill on October 15, 1919, in Dallas, TX. In 1937, Hill graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas, TX. He then attended Texas A&M University, graduating in 1941. Following graduation, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. During World War II Hill served in the Coast Artillery (Anti Aircraft) in the South Pacific, and then resigned in 1945 as a Lt. Colonel. While stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX, Hill met and married Martha Ryan in February of 1943. Following the war, Hill returned to Silver City, NM, later moving to Dallas, TX, and Tulsa, OK. In 1947, Hill returned to Silver City, where he was employed by United States Smelting Refining & Mining Company and later by the Chino Mines Division of Kennecott Copper Corporation, from which he retired in 1982. Hill a Registered Professional Engineer, was a member of Rotary International and AIME. He served on the board of the Silver City-Grant County Museum and the Silver City Planning and Zoning Commission. Hill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha; six daughters and three sons: Libby and her husband, Don Richardson of Dallas, TX, Lyda and her husband, Joel Kotin of Laguna Beach, CA, Edith and her husband, Richard Gibney of Waco TX, Thomas D. Hill Jr. and his wife, Sally of Coppell TX, Lori and her husband, Paul Martinelli of Yorktown Heights, NY, Janet Hill of Flagstaff AZ, Eve Coffman of Flagstaff AZ, Harry Hill and his wife, Misty of Silver City, NM, Dennis Hill and his wife, Marianne of Albuquerque, NM; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may visit French ~ Wyoming Chapel on Friday, October 2, 2009, 6:00 p.m. to Rosary Prayer Vigil at 7:00 p.m.. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 3, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque. Interment will be held at Restland Cemetery, Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX.
