Obituary for HERREID

James "Jim" Glenn Herreid, 41, a life-long resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, September 14, 2009. He is survived by his daughter, Chelsea of Albuquerque; parents, Glenn and Jo Ann Herreid of Albuquerque; sister, Kristen Herreid-Rogers and husband, Dean Rogers, of Rio Rancho, NM; brother, Neil Herreid and wife, Tamera of Denver, CO; nieces, Kiala and Gianna Rogers of Rio Rancho, NM; former wife, Carlota Herreid; aunts, Mary Kay Stewart of Amherst, NH, and Fran Seaman and husband, Ron of Clayton, NM; his beloved cats, Samantha and Mariachi; and numerous other relatives and friends. Jim was born in Albuquerque on November 30, 1967. He attended Montgomery Elementary and Cleveland Middle School before attending and graduating from Del Norte High School in 1985. As a child, he spent many happy summer days with his grandparents on the ranch near Clayton, NM. After serving in the United States Air Force, he graduated from Albuquerque TVI in 1991 with a degree in Accounting and was elected to Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Jim was a lifelong learner, attending the University of Phoenix and the College of Santa Fe. He earned a Bachelors degree in Business Administration/Information Systems from Almeda College in 1999. Jim worked as a systems consultant and accountant in Houston and in Albuquerque. Several years ago he set out to become fluent in the Spanish language and attended language schools in Mexico and Guatemala. In 2005 he moved to Mexico and taught computer science at Escuela Americana in Pachuca, and also was a private tutor for English as a second language. Jim married Carlota Telles Jiron on May 23, 2006 in Pachuquilla, Mexico and they were the proud parents of a daughter, Chelsea Marie Herreid. He was passionate about cats, large and small, and volunteered at a tiger refuge in Texas. Jim was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church as a child. He attended Casa del Rey and Calvary Chapel and was active in the Jail Ministry at Calvary. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 10,000 Spain Rd. NE on Saturday, September 19, 2009, 11:00 a.m., Pastor David R. Breidenbach officiating.
