DAVID HILLIS LAW IV, 82,of Seminole,died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Bay Pines VA Hospice. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 24, 1927, Dr. David H. Law IV moved to Florida in 1996 after having lived in New York City, Nashville, Albuquerque and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. U.S. Army (1945-46).Cornell University (1950), medical doctorate-Cornell University Medical College-New York City (1954). Predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Cindy Law. Survived by brother Richard Law and wife (California); sister-in-law (Arizona); five children, Linda Law Clark (Louisiana), Wendy A. Law, Ph.D.(Maryland),David H. Law V and Kimberly Law Rankin(New Mexico) and Cassandra M. Law (California); nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two nieces and spouses of above. Director of Personnel Health Service (1958-1960)-The New York Hospital, Medical Director and Outpatient Chief-Gastroenterology, Vanderbilt University Hospital-Nashville, Tennessee (1960-1969), Chief of Medicine-Albuquerque VA Medical Center and Vice-Chairman-New Mexico School of Medicine (1977-1978), sabbatical-Karolinska Institute,Stockholm,Sweden (1980),Central Office-Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, D.C. (1985 1996)where he served as Director of Medical Service,Deputy ACMD for Hospital Based Services,Acting Deputy ACMD-Ambulatory Care, Acting ACMD-Clinical Affairs,Deputy ADCMD-Hospital Based Services,Acting ADCMD-Clinical programs and Acting Chief Patient Care Officer and Associate Chief of Staff for Education at the VA Medical Center in Bay Pines, Florida (1996-retirement 2002). He dedicated his life to public service in health care, nutrition and education, served on innumerable national and international boards, committees and task forces, consulted, co-authored abstracts and mentored many. Special Consultant to the National Institutes of Health and the Interdepartmental Committee on Nutrition for National Defense to conduct the Jordan Nutrition Survey(1963). Received numerous awards, including the David M. Whorten award for national contributions toward education in the health professions. Fellow in the American College of Physicians, member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Institute of Nutrition and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. Renaissance man, he savored and shared the music, art, food and cultures experienced in his worldwide travel. He and Cindy loved entertaining, be it a country picnic or a five star gourmet meal. Christmas he enjoyed being mistaken for Santa, sharing a jovial laugh and a Merry Christmas to all. An avid supporter of the International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, he attended each since its inception. A man of his word, he treated others as he wished to be treated, regardless of position or status and worked tirelessly to help those in need. Each and every person he touched remembers him with love and respect as a man of integrity and honor.
