Michael M. Duran, age 83, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2009. Michael was born in Bernalillo, NM, lived in Albuquerque before moving to Belen, NM. He served his country in the US Army and Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He was awarded the Purple Heart while in the military. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Beniga Duran; son, Melvin "Boy" Duran; grandson, Anthony Griego; brother, Solomon Lucero and Goddaughter, Diane Super. Michael is survived by his daughters, all of Albuquerque; Jo Ann Gurule and Ruben, Arlene Lopez, Kristina Marquez and husband Ariel, Michelle Duran and Chris of Belen; grandchildren, Christopher and Lissa Gurule, David Lopez, Adrian Sanchez, Alexis and Tyler Olguin and Gavin Steele. Great-grand children, Krista and Erik Gurule, Brianna Diaz, Adrianna Griego and Ameeriah and Alana Sanchez, He is also survived by his brother, Robert Duran and wife, Estella; two sisters, Rose Sanchez of Corrales, NM and Ignacia Garcia of Huntington Beach, CA; and nieces and nephews. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 beginning with a viewing at 6:30 p.m. and a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be held at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Alexis and Tyler Holguin, Chris Steele, Robert Dan Duran, David Lopez and Adrian Sanchez.
