Obituary for NUNGESSER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday July 18, 2009

Virginia Nungesser was born November 2, 1919 to Edna and Clarence Holliday in Dayton Ohio and passed away July 14 2009 in Van Nuys California. Always characterized by her mother as a bright child, Virginia was valedictorian of her high school class. She graduated from Capital University with a degree in history and went on to receive an M.A. in guidance and counseling. She married Pastor Paul Baumgartner and together they had three children. They moved to California in 1950 where she served as a teacher in the entertainment industry, working with shows such as Leave it to Beaver, Lassie and the Mouseketeers. Moving to Arizona, she served as a counselor at the famous Phoenix Indian School. After the death of Paul, she moved to Albuquerque where she was appointed Head of Guidance and Counseling at the new Bureau of Indian Affairs Vocational School and married Henry Wall. Upon being widowed, she was married again to Abe Nungesser and moved to California. In all her communities Virgina lived a life of service and for her generosity was awarded the highest honor as Volunteer of the Year by Lovelace Hospital. Alert to the end, she kept her mind active with reading and crossword puzzles. Resourceful, she was able to send three children to private colleges on a pastor's salary. She sewed and cooked creatively to give her family the best in food and clothing. In her later years she enjoyed hiking, nature, travel, spending time with her beloved family and her church as well as with her many friends. She will be sorely missed by her three children, Doctor Rex Baumgartner of Santa Clarita, Dr. Tom Baumgartner of Missoula Montana, and Joyce Keil of San Mateo California, her step daughter Patti Valdes and the Wall children Jim and Janie and their children of Albuquerque New Mexico. She is survived by her brother Paul and his children and twelve grandchildren: Zo, Ann, Julie, Michael, Amy, Carter, Brian, Marc, Tondy, Paul, Sheldon, Michael and ten great grandchildren. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Santa Clarita.
