Anna Lee Cates was born August 10, 1926 in Pullman, West Virginia to Noah and Lorena Riggs. Anna Lee passed away on June 25, 2009 at Presbyterian Hospice in Albuquerque. Anna Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Thayer "Pete" Cates. She is survived by two daughters, Diana Dunbar and Vicki Herrera. Other surviving family members include, son-in-law Len Herrera, Roberta "Red" Martinez; grandchildren and their spouses, Eric & Tania Dunbar, Andrew & Yasmine Dunbar, Michael Higley, Jeffrey Herrera, and Daniele & Alex Lau. Great-grandchildren include Marcus and Avery Dunbar, Gabriel, Daniel and Connor Dunbar, Taryn and Kai Lau along with numerous nieces and nephews. Anna Lee retired as the Chief Deputy of the Supreme Court Clerks Office in Arizona. Anna Lee was an active member in numerous charitable organizations, which included Amaranth and Eastern Star where she held the highest offices attainable in these local organizations. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Rio Rancho United Methodist Church, 1652 Abrazo Rd. NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124. Inurnment will follow services in the Rose Garden at Vista Verde Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Diabetes Association in honor of Anna Lee.
