Leon Bennett, 78, peacefully passed away Friday, June 19, 2009. He was born June 15, 1931, the son of Howard Leon and Minnie Irene Muskatt Bennett. He married the love of his life, Mary Louise Merritt, August 15, 1959. She passed away April 18, 1976. The vast majority of his career was spent with KOB TV as a news photographer, editor, and newsman. Leon was a member of the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a die-hard Oakland Raiders fan and his favorite hobby was photography, he also loved to collect things. Survivors include James R. Merritt, beloved step-son, Santa Clarita, CA; Donald G. Merritt, son, Antelope, CA; Mary Lou Raspall, beloved daughter, Vero Beach, FL; Thomas D. Merritt, son; Hollywood, FL; Jane Merritt-McKenna, daughter, Candelaria, TX; John Merritt, step-son; Lakewood, CO; Robert Merritt, beloved step-son; Ingleside, IL; Joan Golder, beloved cousin, Wanetka, IL; grandchildren; Donnella Hanks-Montoya, Dharma and Angel Merritt, and Casey Vivian and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, June 24, 2009, 12:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel.
