Obituary for GALLEGOS

Rose A. Gallegos, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie, sister and friend passed on to eternal life with the Lord on Thursday, June 18, 2009 in Albuquerque, NM. She was 91. Rose was born to Antonio Anaya Sr. & Maria Tellez on June 30, 1917 in San Antonio, NM. She married her late husband Ernest Gallegos on May 7, 1941 in Socorro, NM, together they had six children and he preceded her in death in 1996. She leaves behind their precious son, Ernest T. Gallegos; four daughters, Ernestine Hicks and her husband, Bill, Helen Clay and her husband, Stef, Patricia Johnson, and Fran King; two sisters, Ninfa Archuleta and her husband, Aniceto, and Katie Mendoza and her husband, Epitacio, both from New Mexico; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosanne Campos; grandson, James Sedillo; her sisters, Lucella Sullivan and Sinfie Torres; her brothers, Tony, Manuel, Euesvio and Johnny Anaya. Rose was a dedicated mother and a volunteer in the Albuquerque community all her life. She was awarded Senior of the Year and honored by Governor Bruce King. Rose was recognized for her many years of loyal service to U.S. District Court in 1975. AARP awarded her with the Certificate for Gratitude & Dedicated Service to AARP from 1983 to 2000. The Office for Senior Citizens of Bernalillo County and the Office of Senior Affairs awarded her Outstanding Service to the Community in 1992. She was the liaison person for St. Bernadette Catholic Church at Rio Vista Senior Living Apartments for 22 years with the help of Sister Bea. She was presented a Certificate for Outstanding and Dedicated Services by "Princess Jeanne Meal site", where she proudly prepared and served meals every week for 15 years Seniors and Homeless in her Community. She was a RSVP Volunteer; she received an award for 25 years of service from IRS. She was an avid athlete and trained for "Senior Olympics" for 25 years. She won many 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place ribbons at City and State levels in Jogging, Sprint, Walking, Discus, and Bowling. She loved playing bingo and puzzles. A Celebration of Rose's life will begin with a Rosary, Monday, June 22, 2009, 10:30 a.m. followed by her Funeral Mass at Gate of Heaven Chapel, 7999 Wyoming Blvd NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Sedillo, Josh Martinez, Edward Sanchez, Richard Lovato, Bob Savage, and Brian Cloud.
