Lugarda S. Fields died May 15, 2009 at Longmont United Hospital in Longmont, Colorado. She was born in Jarales, New Mexico, the daughter of Rodrigo and Rita (Aragon) Sanchez. She grew up in Belen, New Mexico and moved to Albuquerque as a young woman. She resided in Albuquerque until 2007 when she moved to Longmont to be closer to her family. Lugarda was employed as a secretary with Sandia Corporation for many years in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was a member of Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church in Albuquerque for over fifty-five years. Lugarda was devoted to God and a life centered in prayer, especially the Rosary. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, who was completely devoted to her family. She was an excellent seamstress who loved to sew for her daughter and grandchildren. She enjoyed volunteering at the annual Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, baking her wonderful homemade bread and working in her garden. Lugarda will be remembered for her kind and gentle manner, her love of family and friends, her concern for others and her faith in God. She enriched the lives of everyone she touched and will be greatly missed by those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Alfred F. Fields; her son-in-law, Phil Baca, her grandson, Steven P. Baca and her sister, Lorens Garcia. Survivors include her daughter, Victoria E. Baca of Longmont; a step-daughter, Mary Lou O'Connor; her grandchildren, Deborah R. Bailey (husband Thompson), Crystal A. Ruby (husband Erik) and Nathan L. Baca; her step-granddaughter Christi Groesbeeck; her great-grandchildren, Christie, Connor, Camden, Blake, Keely, Shaye and Mandi; her nephew Danny Garcia (wife Nellie) and their family, Valine, Orlando, Justin and Brianna Griego and Tricia, Shawn, Kyle and Jacob Marez; and many other family members and friends. Visitation will be 5:30-7:00 P.M. with Rosary Prayers at 7:00 PM Wednesday, May 20 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Thursday, May 21 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties or to American Heart Association which may be sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
