Holly Lynn Anlian, 53, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 13, 2009 as a result of an accident. Holly is survived by her children, twins, Miles and Savannah, her husband of 23 years, Richard Horton of Albuquerque, her parents Edward and Gwen Anlian of Santa Fe, her twin brother, Edward Anlian (Paula Dal Santo) of Albuquerque, her sister, Robin Anlian (Jack Slevin) of Helena, Montana and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Jill Anlian (Wayne Ward) of Santa Fe and her beloved mother-in-law, Betty Thorne Horton of Albuquerque. Holly and her twin brother, Edward, were the youngest children born to Gwendolyn (Bachman) and Col. Ret. Edward Anlian on Dec. 14, 1955, in Wichita, Kansas. Since her father was in the Air Force, Holly lived in Kansas, Iowa, Colorado, New York, Maryland and New Mexico. Because of her natural intellect, Holly graduated early from Albuquerque's Highland High School in the class of 1974. She received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Art Education in 1978 and her Masters of Art in Special Education in 1986 from the University of New Mexico. Holly taught for 20 years in the Albuquerque Public Schools, beginning as a Special Education teacher at Albuquerque High School and Del Norte High School. She then was an Art teacher at West Mesa H.S., Cibola H. S. and for 11 years at Sandia H. S., all in Albuquerque. Her students won many awards at the annual City of Albuquerque's High School art show. Holly always went the extra mile to help her students. Upon moving to Colorado Springs, Holly was a preschool teacher at the First Presbyterian Church. She was a Girl Scout Brownie leader and volunteered numerous hours in her children's classrooms. Holly was an accomplished artist particularly in ceramics and photography. She loved bright colors whether they were used in her art or her home. She collected folk art. Holly also loved animals. She had cats, dogs and bunnies. Sake, her dog, and Trooper, her cat, were among her favorite pets. Holly played in the Albuquerque Women's Soccer League for many years where she was very competitive. She traveled extensively, visiting Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia but her trip to Africa was her favorite. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 22, at 3:00 pm at the French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque.
