Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday May 10, 2009

Victor James Roh, October 21, 1921 to May 2, 2009. Vic was born in Abie, Nebraska, one of 12 children, to Joseph and Mary Roh. He served in the Army Signal Corp during WWII and was stationed in the Pacific. After the war he attended the University of Nebraska, earning his Electrical Engineering degree. In 1954 he joined Sandia Corporation. During his 31-year career he made major contributions to the success of the U.S. nuclear weapons program. Vic assisted in the development of command and control technology which is used today to maintain positive control of US Nuclear Weapons. He was one of the first recipients to receive the Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff Award. Peers described him as an "engineer's engineer." Under Vic's supervision, his family built the beautiful hacienda in Bosque Farms, where he and his wife have spent the last 38 years. Vic's "engineering spirit" extended to all areas of his life; his shop full of inventions he designed and built, improving the world around him. His fierce inquisitiveness and independent spirit will be sorely missed. Vic also loved the outdoors from playing baseball to hunting and fishing A devoted husband and father, Vic is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred (Millie); four children, Marian and husband Bill, David and wife Julia, Becky and husband Andy, Lisa and husband Terrill; seven grandchildren, Alex, Elliott, Stephanie, Ben, Zach, Tori, and Katie; his sister, Alice; and brothers, Joe and Rev. Ray. In lieu of flowers, please spend precious time with your loved ones. Even when it lasts 87 years, life is too short. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
