Phyllis M. Mitchell, 79, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2009 after a long illness. She is survived by her children, Ret. US Navy Commander John P. Mitchell, Jr. and fiancee, Jeanne Mauro of St. James, Florida, JoAnn Obara and husband, Bernard of Taos, NM and Anita Mitchell of Albuquerque; grandchild, Zack Taylor Wright; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Ortiz, Shila and Lacey Wright; brothers, Frank and Doug Turner; and sister, Nagatha Himel. Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ret. Sgt. Major John P. Mitchell. Phyllis will be deeply missed and remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. A Service will be celebrated in her honor on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Chapel. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
