Richard (Rick) Matthews, age 57, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. After a bravely fought battle with cancer, he is now at peace with the Lord and is suffering no more. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Robert & Dorothy Matthews. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Melody, his daughter Karen, (son-in-law, John), daughter Kristi (son-in-law, Rich), his brothers Bob and Tom, and his sister Kathy. His 4 grandchildren were the joy of his life: Michelle, Jacob, Alyssa, and Dominic. Rick proudly earned his Eagle Scout award and served in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from UNM, after which he worked in the aerospace industry with 27 years at Honeywell and the past 6 years at Boeing SVS. Rick had an abundance of different talents, a multitude of friends, a deep appreciation for life, and endless love for his family. Those of us who knew and loved him will always remember his positive attitude, his zest for life, and his love for the Lord. Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm, Monday, May 4, 2009 at John XXIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111, with a reception to follow. A private interment ceremony will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery following the reception.
