Joe A. Martinez, age 75, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2009. He was born on September 22, 1933, at Menaul School to Alfredo and Matilda Martinez. He was preceded in death by his son Aaron Lee Martinez. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Jo; daughters Alberta Hunt and husband Greg, and Lavonne Shawn and husband Doug; grandchildren Melissa Paredes and husband Daniel, Jennifer Hunt, Ashley Robinson, Jessica Shawn, Justin Shawn and his wife Tara; and siblings Jean Morgan and Alfredo Martinez. Joe was a long-standing member of Heights Cumberland Prebyterian Church for 43 years where he was an elder, head usher, and in REACT. He was also a member of Mesa Grande Civitan for 26 years. Joe retired from the New Mexico State Highway Department after 30 years. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Good Samaritan Fund at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
