Obituary for GLAZE

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday April 28, 2009

Tressie Mae Coburn . We celebrate the life of Tressie Mae Coburn Glaze who passed on to Eternal life on Friday, April 24, 2009, just shy of reaching 99 years of age. Tressie was born in Hamilton, TX to Dee and Susanna Coburn on July 6, 1910. She came from Texas to New Mexico with her family in 1915 by train and covered wagon to homestead in Gladstone, NM. She lived in Gladstone for 11 years before moving to Raton, NM. In 1931 Tressie met and married "the most handsome man in the world", Ora William Glaze in Raton, NM. Nine months later the couple moved to Albuquerque. Tressie's grandfather was a circuit-rider preacher for the Methodist Church of Northern New Mexico during the homestead years. This could account for her strong Christian faith and membership in the Central United Methodist Church since 1934. She was a homemaker and worked for 17 years at Blackburn's and Woodruff-Julian's women's apparel. Tressie enjoyed playing games, square dancing and playing the piano. She treasured time with family and friends and will always be remembered for her wonderful cooking, hospitality and sweet nature. Tressie was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother and is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and her husband of 61 years. Left to cherish Tressie's memory are her children, Susanna Jean Maydew of Albuquerque and Owen William Glaze and wife, Laurie, of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Monica Dickerson of Houston, TX, Mark Glaze of Houston, TX, Susan and Sam Wilson of Estancia, NM, Steven and Gina Pannell of Las Cruces, NM, Sandra and David Schindler of Mesa, AZ, Randall Paul and Allis Maydew of Dallas, TX, Barbara Maydew and Kevin Buescher of Los Alamos, NM; 12 great-grandchildren; four nephews; two nieces; and her sister, Lois Fornoff of Arkansas. A Service and Celebration of Tressie's Life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009, 10:30 a.m., at Central United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 201 University NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106.
