Zenobia E. "Nobie" Hurley, passed away at her home after a short illness on Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Nobie had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1960. She was very active in her Catholic community and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. She was a founding member and lifetime booster for St. Pius X High School and a loyal volunteer for the Republican Party. Nobie was dedicated and skilled as Director of Volunteer Services for St. Joseph Healthcare System from 1977 to 1997. She truly made a significant difference in the quality of life of all those she encountered: auxilians, volunteers, staff, families and patients. She truly loved her friends and their weekly bridge parties. But her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. She was their most loyal fan and supporter through good times and bad. She loved cooking for family gatherings and everyone was always welcome! She was born May 31, 1929, to Adelaide and Cornelius Whelan in Owatonna, MN, and graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in Portsmouth, OH. Nobie is survived by her five children, John of Grand Junction, CO, Timothy and wife, Kathy of Placitas, NM, Neal, Lonny and wife, Barbara, Peggy and husband, Wayne, all of Albuquerque, four grandchildren, Kurt, Kimberly, Jay, and Connor; two sisters, Betty Rasmussen of Palatine, IL and Carol Gustafson of Albuquerque; and many nieces and nephews. Nobie loved her Catholic faith, the Republican Party, her country, Notre Dame Football, and most of all her family and large circle of friends. In turn, she was adored by everyone who knew her and was admired for her wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, and never ending generosity.
