Obituary for COUNTS

Gwendolyn Jeanne Counts passed away at home in Sandia Park, NM on Monday, April 20, 2009. Gwen was born to Howard Sr. & Doris M Bare in Los Angeles, CA in 1925. She married Neal E Counts in 1951. Gwen was deeply interested in Native American History especially tribes located in the Southwest United States. She acquired and read many books related to American Indian history and traveled to reservations thoughout New Mexico. Mrs. Counts was always willing to share her knowledge of Native American history to all. Of equal interest to her were telling stories of the Wild West. Jessie James, Sheriff Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid were a few of the historical figures that were fascinating to her. When Gwen wasn't telling Wild West stories, she would talk of hauntings and apparitions, aka "spooky ghost stories". Mrs. Counts is survived by her husband; son Michael Counts and wife April of California; daughter Lori Luscomb and husband Paul of New Mexico; two grandchildren Amber Duncan and husband Matt, and Max Counts; and great grandson Cody Duncan. Services were held at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Friday, April 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Easter Seals Society of NM, 2819 Richmond Dr. NE, 87107.
