Anna M. Champlin, MD, 58, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009. A resident of Albuquerque since 1989, Anna was born on July 17, 1950 in Margaretville, NY and began her life in the rural town of Downsville, NY, located in the Catskill Mountains. She graduated from Downsville Central School as Valedictorian of the Class of 1968, and from Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY, Magna Cum Laude, 1972, where she was a member of the Women's Governing Board, Pi Theta Phi Professional Physical Therapy Fraternity and the Zeta Sigma Nu and Oracle Honor Societies. After practicing physical therapy, in New York and Colorado, Anna made the decision to pursue a medical degree which she earned from Rutgers Medical School in 1984. After completing a residency in Diagnostic Radiology in the position of Chief Resident at the Hackensack Medical Center, NJ, Anna relocated to Albuquerque in 1989 as, first a Fellow, and then as Chief of Interventional Radiology, and an Associate Professor at UNM Health Sciences Center. Her professional career was interrupted when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia in 2002, after which she went into retirement. Anna lived her life with a passion for the family and friends who loved her, the patients who received her care, the students who learned from her and the colleagues with whom she practiced medicine. As an avid outdoorswoman she hiked trails and overland routes across the country and enjoyed travel throughout the world. Upon her retirement she took up the hobby of cactus gardening-the blossoms of her labor grace her home today.
