Maria Sevilla Santana, 81, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, went to be with Our Heavenly Father on Monday, April 7, 2009. Maria was born in La Puente, in 1927 to Jesus Maria and Secundina Atencio. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings. Maria is survived by her beloved husband Juan P. Santana, her loving children; Eleanor V. Sanchez and husband Gabriel R., Carlos Michael Valdez, Frank Larry Valdez and Billy (Willie) Guillermo Valdez and wife "Ginger" Virginia and Jenny I. Valdez, 16 grandchildren; Roberta A. Chavez, Gabriel R. Sanchez, Jr., Natalie Sanchez, Melanie Jaimey Gold, Rocky Sanchez, Michael Sanchez, Dennise Vera, Fernando Valdez, Angelica Sanchez, Theresa Saiz, Bernadette Valdez, Maria Ybarra, Alexis Valdez, BillyRay Valdez, Randee Blue Valdez, Delilah Garcia, 25 great-grandchildren; Acacia, Jaeda and Tuesday Chavez, Aristotle Vera, Darian, Carlos, Gabriella, Gavin, Garrett, Angelo, Alexa and Aja Sanchez, David Valdez, Olivia Gallegos, Michael, Marquis and Sevilla Valdez, Dominique Melero, Joseph, Marissa and Melanie Ybarra, Crystal Graves, Elizabeth Saiz, Esperanza and Aailyah Baca. Maria will be missed by all, she will always be remembered for her kind and generous heart. She always had an open door policy where all were made to feel welcomed by her quick wit and great sense of humor. A visitation will be held at the 8th Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary on Monday, April 13, 2009 beginning at 5:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, at 7:00 p.m., also at the 8th Street Chapel and Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 9:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carlos Fernando Valdez, Gabriel R. Sanchez, Jr., Rocky Jude Sanchez, Alexis Larry Valdez, BillyRay Valdez, David Juan Valdez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carlos, Gavin, Garrett and Angelo Sanchez, Michael and Marquis Valdez and Joseph Ybarra.
