Obituary for MARTINEZ

Delfin Martinez, born in Durango, Colorado on June 9, 1925 to Augustin and Eloisa Martinez, went home to his Heavenly Father on March 31, 2009, at 1:15 pm after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife of 60 1/2 years, Regina, and seven children: daughters and sons-in law, Linda and Frank Kindel; Eloise and Henry Hidalgo; Elizabeth and Gregory Cruz; Erica and Mauricio Segovia; sons, Del, Donald and partner Gene McGrew; Daniel and wife Zoe; and loved Sisters-In-Law Rommie Delgado and Mary Montoya; eleven grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five half-siblings: Louie, Rosie, Yvette, Junior, and Johnny. Del honorably served his country during WWII in the Navy Seabees 1943-1946 in the South Pacific, Air Force 1947-1950, and the Air National Guard for five years. He was retired from the NFIB, successful business owner, a parishioner at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church for 55 years, founder of Los Caballeros de Don Quixote Charity Organization, and a volunteer at Bear Canyon Senior Citizen Center, where he had many longtime friends. He was an advocate and volunteer facilitator for many veterans to receive their rightful benefits. He was a compassionate friend to anyone needing help. He had a love for creating cultural art. Our father welcomed each day with such love and joy for his friends and family. We will miss him dearly. Rosary will be recited on Thursday, April 2, 2009, French, Lomas location at 7:00 pm. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 3, 2009, at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas at Tennessee, at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 3:00 pm. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Henry J., Stuart and David Hidalgo, Dr. Dominic Stape, William Baca Jr., and Marcus Martinez. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Loni Walker, Bridget McDonald, Michelle Dean, Sofia and Diego Martinez. Contributions may be made to the VA Voluntary Service Office at 505-256-2771.
