Obituary for HOPPER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday March 27, 2009

Edra Mae Hopper left this world to be with the Lord and her beloved husband, Doyle, early Saturday morning, March 21, 2009. She died peacefully in the arms of her daughter, Norma, who loved and cared for her the past six years. Edra was born in Abilene, Texas in 1924 and married Doyle Richmond Hopper in 1942. He preceded her in death in 2005. They were longtime residents of Aztec, NM, and were active volunteers at the Aztec Senior Citizens Center. Edra loved arts and crafts and crocheted countless afghans for the patients at the Aztec Good Samaritan Nursing Home and Angels for Cancer patients. She had a special arts and crafts room in her home for her grandkids to enjoy. Edra was an avid collector of salt and pepper shakers, having over 500 sets. She loved children and there was not one baby she saw that she didn't stop to tell them how pretty they were. And boy did she love her pet dog, El Rey, who she called Pud. He loved her too. On a personal note, she loved a piece of chocolate and a shot of brandy to get her through the day. Edra is survived by her daughter, Norma J. Vargas and her husband David Vargas; son, Doyle "Bo" R. Hopper Jr. and his wife Lori; sister, Grace Pyett and husband Bob and sister-in-law, Audrey Medlock. Grandma Dear, as she liked to be called, is also survived by her grandchildren, Shawn Vargas, Andrea Camp and husband Billy, David Jason Vargas and wife Kathy, Mary Grace Bodine and husband Matthew and Carl Hopper; great-grandchildren, Jeremie Atencio and his wife Summer, Jasmine Atencio and her partner Lonnie Arellano, Jessica Vargas, Shawna Vargas, Ryan Camp, Stephanie Vargas, David Alan Vargas, Luke Bodine and Nichole Bodine; great-great- grandchildren, Barbara Atencio, Jade Atencio, David Atencio, Isaiah Jaramillo and Elijah Anglin; as well as many other relatives and friends who loved her and will miss her. A Memorial Service will be held at the Montgomery Boulevard Church of Christ, 7201 Montgomery NE., ABQ., NM. 87109, on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 1:00 pm.
