Obituary for STRAHL

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday March 18, 2009

Roger Strahl passed away on March 13, 2009, at the age of 54. A music lover and longtime member of the New Mexico Jazz Workshop, Roger consulted with clubs and promoted concerts, and he was a proud "Deadhead" (a Grateful Dead fan). Roger loved politics. He had a brilliant mind and loved to debate political issues, frequently writing commentaries. An inspiration in his fight to keep his ailing physical being together over many years, Roger's endurance was unmatched. He never gave up trying to beat his illnesses. Afflicted with juvenile diabetes at age 13, Roger experienced many physical setbacks throughout his life. Over the past month he spent a lot of good, quality time with the friends and family who were everything to him, and he maintained a positive attitude in the face of his ill health. Roger's philosophy of life was to look for balance in everything. The son of Maurice and Clara Strahl, both Holocaust survivors, Roger is survived by his devoted sisters Joanne Ashe and Pepi Strahl; his nieces Ariel and Alexi Ashe, Marisa Johnson and Cedra Levin; and his nephews Tolya Ashe and Ethan and Avery Johnson. A Memorial Service for Roger will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at noon, at the Congregation Albert Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale Blvd. SE in Albuquerque. Roger will be missed by his friends and loved ones -- we are reminded that life is short, and love is everything.
