Obituary for BLACKWELL

William "Weelo" Edward Blackwell, 81, passed away on March 13, 2009. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Jan Boyd Blackwell; his beloved daughters, Tracie B. Moore (R. Chris, deceased) of Cleveland, OH; Leslie B. Oliver (Carl R.) of San Antonio, TX; his four adoring grandsons, Michael W. Moore of Duluth, MN, Thomas M. Moore of Washington, D.C., R. Boyd Oliver and W. Rust Oliver of San Antonio, TX; numerous nephews and nieces; and his lifelong friends, Gene and Neil Baker, El Paso, TX. Bill was born and raised in El Paso, TX and graduated from Texas Western College, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Prior to college, Bill was in the Navy during World War II, serving on a mine sweeper in the Pacific, the USS Towhee #388. He and his wife moved to Albuquerque in 1955 to join Boyd Engineering Co. He retired as President of the company in 1989. Bill served as President of the State Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, President of the Albuquerque Trap Club, and was involved in numerous military organizations including DOCA (Defense Orientation Conference Association) and The 8th Air Force. He and his wife were members of the Albuquerque Country Club for 41 years. Bill was an exceptional trap and skeet shooter as well as an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. Bill was always happy, loved people, was greatly loved and will be missed by many. A private family graveside service will be held followed by a reception for friends at the Blackwell's home on Wednesday, March 18, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The New Mexico Veterans Memorial Foundation, P.O.
