Obituary for LLOYD

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday March 15, 2009

Margaret Lloyd, 93, went home to the arms of her Lord, March 9, 2009. She will be lovingly re-united with her husband, Paul, her son, Paul (Randy), her brothers Frank, Randolph and Jay, her sister Mary as well as all the many "saints" of her extended family of origin. Margaret was a pioneering woman for her day. She left her birth town of Salisbury, PA, to obtain a college degree and briefly taught school before moving to Washington, DC, where she attended George Washington University. Margaret then worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, the Bureau of Reclamation and helped develop reconnaissance maps for the allies prior to the US involvement in WWII. Ironically, Margaret married her husband Paul, a German non-citizen, on the morning Pearl Harbor was unexpectedly bombed. The US government put Paul in an internment camp until he could be "cleared" of any Nazi affiliation, but then prohibited the couple from living in Washington DC, and they eventually ended up in Ohio, where Margaret took a non-government position with Goodyear Aircraft. She was recruited and re-located to Albuquerque from Ohio by Sandia National Labs in the 1950's, where she was the only female in her capacity working on top secret missile projects. Margaret spent her retirement years living a quiet and reverent life. She visited Washington DC many times to visit her daughter, Mary, who was doing International Development work for the State Department. After Mary's retirement, Margaret lived with her in California on and off for many years. Mary returned to Albuquerque several years ago to help fulfill Margaret's wish to live at home until the end, which she did. This could not have been possible without the help of Presbyterian Hospice, for which there is much gratitude. Margaret is survived by her daughter Mary; and her out of state nephews Frank, Bill and Wayne Reitz; and niece Barbara Harris. A Memorial Service will be held at Faith in Christ Lutheran Church, where Margaret spent many years in service, worship and community, 1750 Faith Court NE (located at the SE corner of Indian School and Chelwood Park), Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Please visit our online guestbook for Margaret at RememberTheirStory.com French 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE (505) 275-3500
