Obituary for KUTVIRT

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday March 08, 2009

Ruzena (Duda) Kutvirt. We lost a loving, insightful, intellectually curious and wise mother, grandmother and friend to many on February 25, 2009 when Ruzena (Duda) Chytilova Kutvirt, age 89, passed away. Born in Plzen, Czechoslovakia, Duda was an exchange student at Smith College, earned her Master's degree in Chemistry from Mills College and married her childhood sweetheart, Otakar, in 1942 before returning to her native country in 1946. Due to the repressive Communist regime, Duda, Otakar and their young son Tom escaped from Czechoslovakia in 1949 and settled in Rochester, NY. They retired in sunny New Mexico in 1979. Although her journey has ended, Duda will be remembered for befriending young and old and for her abiding interest in all she met. Please join Duda's family, Dan, Susan, Gregory and Jacqueline, and her beloved caregivers and friends at a Farewell Party on Sunday, March 15, from 4-6pm at 5 Pool, NW, in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Planned Parenthood or to a charity of your choice.
