Obituary for HOULISTON

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday March 08, 2009

Phil Houliston died Feb. 23, 2009. Born in Port Huron, Mich., June 26, 1937, he was best friend to his wife, of 50 years, Barbara; loving father to his son, David of Albuquerque, and son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Sara of Euless, Texas; and caring grandpa to six grandchildren, Darren, Kyle, Trissy, Lauren, Karen, and Clare. Phil's long career in sales began in Minnesota and took him and his family to Omaha, Santa Fe, Carlsbad, Calif., and finally Las Vegas. It was during his longtime residency in Santa Fe that he passed on to his sons his love of sports and watched and encouraged them as they excelled in school and athletics, particularly basketball. In the last few years this passion has been passed on by his sons to his grandchildren. Phil's love of the game of golf was well known to anyone who knew him at all, and he made many friends over the years "on the links", in Santa Fe and at Los Prados in Las Vegas. A man with many interests, friends, and hobbies, but only one passion - his family. Without exception, he managed to live a life of optimism and unabashed enthusiasm. His legacy will always be the smile his name brings to the people who knew him. His passion serves as a reminder of the blessing he was to those of us who loved him - and there are many. Services were held at 1 pm, Thursday, Feb. 26th, at Palm Mortuary, 6701 N. Jones Blvd, Las Vegas Nevada.
