Obituary for JOHNSON

Louie Johnson, 91, passed away Monday evening March 2, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernita, his son Michael, and his longtime companion Severa. He is survived by his brother Vannie and his sister Hazel. He is also survived by his daughter Judy, his son Glenn and wife Kathy, and his son George and wife Laura; his grandchildren Franchesca, Christopher and wife Stefanie, Phillip, Ana and Renee, and his two great-grandchildren Dominic and Savannah. He grew up in Mississippi and was a charter member of the Mississippi School for the Deaf Sports Hall of Fame. Later he attended Gallaudet College for the Deaf. He moved to New Mexico with his family in 1963. He retired from Albuquerque Publishing Company in 1980. He was an active member of the deaf community and was a past president of the New Mexico Association of the Deaf. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and was well known in the community for his wood working abilities. There wasn't anything that he couldn't make with a piece of wood. Throughout his entire life he never let his handicap stop him from doing whatever he wanted to do. He never complained and never looked back. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend who people enjoyed being around. We will all miss him dearly. There will be a Visitation Saturday, March 7, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 2400 Southern Blvd SE, Rio Rancho, NM.
