Obituary for GREENE

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday March 05, 2009

Edna Greene, 89, went to be with her Savior, Jesus, on Sunday, March 1, 2009. Born October 7, 1919 in Sayre, OK she was the eighth of ten children born to James and Nora Nicholson. Edna married her childhood sweetheart, Granville Greene, a young Air Force officer, and moved off the farm and into an exciting life as a military wife. She loved traveling, entertaining, and antiquing. An enthusiastic shopper with an excellent fashion sense, she was known as a bargain hunter, a holdover from her Depression Era childhood. Edna, Granville, and their four daughters moved to Albuquerque in 1958 where she was a homemaker, hostess, gardener and avid bridge player. The family attended the base chapel, and Edna enjoyed the women's Bible study. In later years, she was a volunteer at Lovelace Hospital on Gibson. She was generous and giving, for many years anonymously helping families at Christmas. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years. She is survived by sisters, Mildred Johnson of Baker City, OR, and Ruby Simmons of Sayre, OK; daughters, Linda Greene, Judy Larson and husband, Ken, Jane Gilmore and husband, Rick, and Debbie McCracken and husband, Randy; grandchildren, Ryan McCracken and companion, Dianne Barnard, Brendan McCracken, Sharon Helgeson and husband, David, Sarah Larson, Kim Valdes and husband, David, and Candy, Jared, Paul and Phillip Gilmore; and many nieces and nephews.
