Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday March 04, 2009

John Standish Stoer, 84, Col (Ret) USAF, a resident of Albuquerque since 1971, died Thursday, February 12, 2009. He was a 1945 graduate of West Point Military Academy and served for 30 years in the USAF as a fighter pilot and inspector general. He then taught aeronautics at the Albuquerque Career Enrichment Center for ten years, while teaching "precise" acrobatics as chief pilot for several flight schools in the 70's. He leaves Mary, his wife of 55 years; his daughter, Mary Stoer-Wenger and husband, Jerrell and granddaughter, Erin, of Golden, CO; son, Tom and wife, Lorrie, and twin grandsons, John and Ryan of Farmington, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Ada Stoer; and sisters, Deirdre, Hazel, and Maxine. His love of life and flying, his optimistic attitude, his sense of humor and his engaging personality, will be cherished by those that knew him. Dad could make anything easier to understand, make everything better on bad days, and make life funny. "His faults were other's best efforts". Well done Dad. John S. Stoer's Funeral Services will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, March 6, 2009, 11:30 a.m., with a get-together for a life celebration afterwards. Should friends desire, memorial contributions can be made to the West Point Fund, West Point, New York 10996-1607.
