Robert Tourek, 77, passed away on February 9, 2009, surrounded by family at his home in Albuquerque, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Jeanne Tourek; his nine children, Robert Tourek and his wife Lisa, Kathy Tourek and her husband Steve French, Mark Tourek and his wife Judy Jankowski, Kevin Tourek and his wife Kelly, Tim Tourek, David Tourek, Lisa Mack and her husband Tom, Erin Tourek, Megan Muirhead and her husband Chris; sixteen grandchildren, Robert Tourek, Christopher Tourek, Lauren French, Kendall French, Gabriel Tourek, Lexie Tourek, Ben Tourek, Sawyer Tourek, Aiden Tourek, Johnathan Mack, Courtney Mack, Kaitlin Mack, Jack Muirhead, Sam Muirhead, Jordan Muirhead, and Elizabeth Muirhead. Robert was born on March 25, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Northwestern University and went on to serve as a lieutenant in the Navy where he was a naval aviator in the Korean War. Robert and Mary Jeanne raised their nine children in East Grand Rapids, Michigan where he worked as a food broker for over thirty years. He and Mary Jeanne moved to Albuquerque in 1994 so that he could spend his retirement years among family members, play year round golf in endless sunshine and be surrounded by "his" watermelon mountains. Robert was an avid golfer, pilot, and Chicago Cubs/Bears fan. He will be remembered for his warmth, his optimistic attitude, his smile and the importance that he placed on family. Robert was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and he will be deeply missed. A Rosary will be held on Friday, February 13, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at John XXIII Catholic Community Church, 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at John XXIII Catholic Community Church. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. Robert was a firm believer in education and he took great pride in the academic accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
