Denny Fred "Kirk" Kirkendall, age 81, of Sonora, CA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, February 7, 2009 in Albuquerque, NM, after a full life, in spite of his long battle with cancer. Kirk served his country in the Merchant Marines during WWII and the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. He is survived by daughter, Diana Simmons and husband Rod of Castro Valley, CA; sisters, Gladys Baca and husband Dan of Albuquerque, NM, Elsie Berry of Albuquerque, NM; nieces, Cynthia Steel and husband Kirk, Marin Bandoni and husband Steve; nephews, Mark Berry, Michael Bandoni; grandchildren, Felicia, Taylor, Danny, and Laci; and special friend, Mary McEntee of Rio Rancho, NM. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary Westside Chapel.
