Carlos Rey Chavez, 30, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on February 4, 2009. Carlos is survived by his mother, Hazel O. Chavez; his sister, Lori S. Melchior; his brothers, Robert L. Chavez and wife, Mia, and Larry D. Melchior and wife, Denise; his nieces and nephews, Michael, Xavier, Candice, Kiehren, Savannah, Isaiah, Chandler, Larry III and Isabella; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Carlos was preceded in death by his grandmother, Sally Chavez. Carlos was a member of the Catholic Church, former President of the Atrisco Valley Little League, a member of Omega Delta Phi at Eastern New Mexico University. Carlos was a VERY devoted fan of the Denver Bronco's and was an inspiration to the children of the South Valley. Visitation will be Friday, February 6, 2009, at Church of the Ascension Catholic Church, 2005 Raymac SW, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Jesus and Maria Elena Orozco. Final visitation will be Saturday at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Father Edmund Savilla, presider. Interment will follow at Los Padillas Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricardo Cordova, Michael Sanchez, Xavier Chavez, Kiehren Melchior, Ross Sanchez and Richard Chavez.
