Kathryn Alouette Hedges passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009. Alouette was born May 21, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA to the Rev. Dr. Olin McKendree and Pauline Williams Jones. Alouette attended Juilliard School of Music and was awarded a Bachelor and Master of Arts degree in music and music education from Teachers College at Columbia University in New York. Alouette taught music in Fairfield, CT privately and in public elementary schools for 30 years. Alouette's teaching style reflected a calm and graceful intelligence. She enhanced countless children's love of piano. She is survived by her two daughters, Peggy Favour and her husband Geoff Adams, and Sally Gregg and her husband CW Gregg; five grandchildren, Will Wintermute and his partner Richard; Justin McLean Favour, Laura Kathryn Favour, Hannah Elizabeth Gregg, and Devon McKendree Adams; two great grandchildren, Nolan and Jacob Wintermute; as well as sister, Gerry Rhoades, and brother Rev. Donald Jones and his wife Annie; and several nieces and nephews. Alouette's family would like to thank the caring staff and friends at The Village at Alameda, Westwind House, and Vista Care Center hospice of Albuquerque, NM. Cremation has taken place and a family event to celebrate Alouette's life will take place in New York.
