Obituary for BURESS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday January 25, 2009

Anne Buress, 83, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2009 in Midland, Texas following a brief illness. A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Anne was born January 7, 1925, to Hugh O'Neill and Annie McAlpine. As a young woman she survived Germany's "blitz" attacks on Scotland in the early days of World War II. She acquired medical training and was working in Scotland's hospitals until 1953, when she immigrated to the United States, arriving in New York City, and going on to live and work in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States on November 21, 1955. She later moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and while living and working there, she met Tom Buress. They were married on December 5, 1959, in Santa Fe, and made their home in Albuquerque. They had two children, Rita and William (Bill). She volunteered in her children's and grandchildren's schools, and in other activities. A special treat for students in her daughter's English Literature classes was to hear her read aloud works such as Chaucer's Canterbury Tales with the Scottish brogue she retained throughout her life. She will be remembered for her kindness and her generosity, and for the "cheerio" she bestowed on you when parting. Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Tom. She is survived by her son, William, of Midland; daughter, Rita and her husband, Jeff McDonald of Midland; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Stephen, also of Midland. A Cryptside Service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2009, 3:00 p.m., at the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum, 924 Menaul Blvd NE. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, on Friday prior to the Service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Building Fund at FPC-Fort Stockton, P.O.
