Marjorie Ruth Foster Strong, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away January 2nd, 2009 in Albuquerque, NM. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Almon, three children, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many devoted friends. Marge was born in Bottineau, North Dakota, on October 25, 1921, to Clark Philo Foster and Mary Margaret (Minnie) Cameron Foster. She graduated from Minot High School and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1943 from Minot State University. As a patriotic member of the Greatest Generation, Marge was the Asst. Coordinator and instructor of the Navy V-5 and Navy V-12 cadets at Minot State University during World War II. When the Program was completed in April 1944, Marge was honored with an appointment as commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve, and served in the Personnel Division at the Bureau of Aeronautics in Washington, D.C. While it was unusual for a Navy WAVE officer marrying an Army Captain, she returned home to marry her high school sweetheart, Almon Strong on September 30, 1945. Following the War, Marge and Al moved to Devils Lake, ND where Almon purchased and operated a funeral home. It was there that their two oldest children were born. When the Korean Conflict began in 1950, both Marjorie and Almon were called back to active duty, however with two children, Marge received a permanent discharge. Almon, Marge & family traveled throughout the U.S. & Germany while Almon served a 30 year career in the U.S. Air Force. Their youngest daughter was born at Cheyenne AFB, WY. When the family moved back to Minot, Marjorie completed her Masters in Counseling at the University of North Dakota, and thereafter worked in that field of education until retirement from work. Marge served on the Board of Regents at Minot State University and on May 23, 1991, she was honored to receive special recognition as recipient of the "Golden Award" from Minot State University Alumni Association as the outstanding alumni. Marge was a two time cancer survivor. In 2005 Marge and Almon moved to Manzano del Sol from Sun City West, AZ. Marge was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Chapter AN P.E.O. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at Manzano del Sol Chapel, time and date pending.
