Mattie Kate Pierce, age 95, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2008. She was born in Mertens, TX and as a child, moved to Milan and Lavina, TN. She came to Albuquerque in 1957 and was employed at Sandia Base. She retired with her husband, Alfred C. Pierce to Hot Springs Landing at Elephant Butte Lake in the late 60's, where they enjoyed fishing, hunting and entertaining. Kate belonged to many organizations, including the Order of the Eastern Star Boat Club, Booster Club of Elephant Butte, American Legion and the VFW. Mama Kate leaves a daughter, Rebecca J. Chamblee of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Frank Butler and wife, Bekki and their daughter, Sierra of Sparks, NV; Sherrye Butler and Rob Boyles and daughter, Shauna and son, Nathan, all of Albuquerque. Her Papa used to tell Kate she was worth a "million" and she certainly was. Cremation has taken place and no services have been scheduled at this time.
