Charles R. "Bob" Hutchins, age 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1968, passed away quietly in his Albuquerque home on December 26, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Imogene "Gene"; five children, James Hutchins and wife, Debra of Albuquerque; Larry Hutchins and wife Kay of Colorado Springs; Steve Hutchins of Ada, Oklahoma; Dan Hutchins and wife Cathy of Cedar Grove; Debra Kincaid and husband Larry of Albuquerque; grandchildren Taylor Hutchins, Wesley Hutchins and Duncan Kincaid; and sister Maxine Davis of Yukon, OK. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Morgan Hutchins; and his sister Helen Hardin. He was a devoted husband, and a beloved father and grandfather, and his family will miss him dearly. Born in Atwell, Texas, in 1928, he received an education degree from Texas Tech University, where he also met and married Gene Schrank. After graduation, he served in the U. S. Army with the 2nd Armored Division, stationed in Germany. Once back in the states, he taught at several small West Texas schools before his real passion as a wildflower collector brought him to Albuquerque. He worked with the Albuquerque Public Schools for many years, as assistant principal at Sandia High School, Eldorado High School, Rio Grande High School, Highland High School and the Career Enrichment Center. He received a doctorate from UNM in education and a Masters degree in botany. He collaborated on several books detailing the flora of New Mexico and worked extensively with ethnobotany. One of his other abiding passions was photography, and he spent much time taking photographs and developing them in his darkroom. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 2, 2009 at St. Chad's Episcopal Church, 7171 Tennyson St. NE, Albuquerque, NM.
