Obituary for HERRERA

Daniel Herrera, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2008. He is a native son of northern New Mexico and a survivor of the family of original Herrera settlers. He was born, raised, worked and lived in the Espanola/La Mesilla, Santa Fe and Albuquerque areas. His occupation was a heavy equipment operator for the State of New Mexico Highway Department. He was the heart of his large extended family and provided much love and strength to all those in his life. He gave unconditionally of himself to his family, extended families, neighbors, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores Quintana Herrera in 1986; his son Robert Herrera in 1989; and his grandson Christopher Herrera in 1996. Daniel was born on December 20, 1914. He is survived by his immediate family Patrick and Rosemary Herrera; grandson Marty Herrera and wife, Gia and family, granddaughters, Debra Rodriguez and Sandra Zielinski; great-granddaughters, Skarlette Zielinski and Krystina Zielinski, Peter and Gloria Herrera, grandson Daniel Herrera, his wife Rachel and their children Susan, Samuel, and Logan Herrera, granddaughter Terri Andres and husband Kirk, Phillip Herrera and grandson Zachary Herrera, Carmella Herrera and granddaughters Anjali Herrera and Monica Herrera, and Kenny Herrera from San Francisco, CA; brother-in-law Frank Quintana; sisters-in-law Rose Quintana and Chris Clark and family from Houston, TX. Many Godchildren, loving nephews, nieces, great-grandnephews and nieces, all of whom he was so thankful for, also survive him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him as he was a friend to everyone he met. Daniel participated with his family as a member of the Catholic Community. Visitation will be held Friday, December 19, 2008, 5:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Location, followed by a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass celebrating God's goodness and Daniel's life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008, 9:00 a.m., at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Pallbearers are Phillip Herrera, Sandra Zielinski, Peter Gregory, Rudy Duran, John Olguin, and Jesus Ramirez. Honorary pallbearers are Fred Jacquez, Antonio Jacquez, Vences Montano, George Rivera, Isidro Herrera, Norberto (Willie) Herrera, Lou Gallegos, Ike Lopez, Melesio Griego, John Valdez, Willie Casados, and Raymond Rudy Duran.
