Obituary for HAYES

Barbara Hayes, RN, CADAC, passed away on December 8, 2008 at age 84, with loving family by her side. She was born in New Bedford, MA on September 23, 1924. After receiving her nursing degree at Peter Bent Brigham Women's Hospital and teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School in Boston, she married and moved to Los Alamos in 1953. She worked for many years at the Los Alamos Medical Center in surgical, pediatric, and ER units. She also worked at medical centers in Espanola, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Canon City, CO. She earned her certification for alcohol and drug addiction counseling and worked in Embudo, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Haight-Asbury district in San Francisco, CA. She was especially proud of being a member of the American Indian Nurses Assoc., as well as the Nurses Union. She is survived by her six children, daughters Leslie Kappen-Enders (Robert) of Magdalena, Lynn Hayes-Hood (Neal) of Farmington; sons William, Bernard and Michael of Albuquerque and Donald Kappen (Tina) of New Orleans; and three grandchildren Hannah, Mary, and Will. Requiem Mass will be celebrated by long-time family friend, Father Arkad Biczak at John XXIII Catholic Community, Albuquerque, on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. The family wishes to extend a very special Thank You to all the wonderful staff at Presbyterian Hospice and Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice of Albuquerque.
