Obituary for TRUJILLO

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday November 16, 2008

Marie Elizabeth Sass Trujillo, 63, passed away unexpectedly on November 13, 2008 at 10:01 a.m., at the University of New Mexico hospital. She was born on August 21, 1945 in Los Alamos, NM to Harriett and Edward J. Sass. She is survived by her son Marc and his dear wife Linda; and his father Joseph; sister Carol and her daughter Molly and devoted husband Bill; sister Trish her and son Michael Usner and adored wife Rebecca and their son Zachary and daughter Avari, long time companion Augusto; and animals Ursa, Baby Red, and Jessica. Marie attended Los Alamos high school (voted most attractive), and the University of New Mexico, where she majored in foreign languages with a double bachelors degree in Russian and German. She later founded and operated Firebird Productions, a successful advertising agency which specialized in non-profit organizations and the fine arts in New Mexico. Cultural interests drew her to such locations as the Great pyramids in Egypt and the Louvre in Paris. Marie relocated to New Jersey for several years, enjoying the cultural wealth of New York City and working for Canon. She eventually returned to New Mexico to be closer to her mother Harriett, sister Trish, and later, sister Carol. Witty, strong willed and independent, she had a broad and eclectic range of interests, including language, opera and classical music, fine arts, history, religion and poetry. She enjoyed exotic cooking, fine dining, playing the piano, and had a deep appreciation for painting, sculpture, and architecture. She possessed an intense amount of pride in her only son, who graduated from Yale University and is a 2008 Guggenheim fellow in fine art. Unafraid to speak the truth to power, her sharp, refreshingly blunt sense of humor was extremely entertaining and never failed to bring a smile to the faces of those that loved her. Her excellent memory, passion, and engaging personality will continue to enrich the lives of those that knew her well. Her sudden departure was a shock to her family, who love and miss her deeply. A private Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2008. Gifts in her memory should be made to Best Friends animal rescue: http://www.bestfriends.org.
