Rita L. Velarde, 68, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on November 10, 2008. Mrs. Velarde is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Leo; her son Charles Velarde and Angela Aguilar; her sisters, Beatrice Trujillo and Suzie Garcia; her brothers, Chris Romero and wife, Betty and Marty Romero; her two grandchildren, Charles Anthony and Ryan Christopher; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Velarde was preceded in death by her son, Tony; her daughter, Vera Jean; parents, Alberto and Lucia Romero; her grandmothers, Tilde Valdez and Ignacita Romero; and her brothers in law, Ernest Trujillo and Jim Garcia. Mrs. Velarde was a member of the Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday, November 14, 2008, in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by the Legion of Mary. Final visitation will be Saturday morning in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edwin Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona Rd. SW, Father Bill Sanchez, presider. Interment will follow at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eric and Anthony Gutierrez, Ernest and Gabriel Trujillo, Louis Minero, and Charles Velarde. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric and Aaron Aguilar and Ryan Velarde.
