Heinz Kurt Hinkel, 85, of Albuquerque, NM, died Sunday, November 2, 2008. Heinz was the son of Richard and Johanne Hinkel. He was born December 3, 1922, in Buchholz, Saxony, in Germany. Heinz graduated in 1942 cum laude from the advanced merchant school (Hohere Handelsanstalt) in Chemmitz to begin a carrier in banking. In 1943, he was drafted into the German Army. Upon his return in 1945 he served as a missionary and later as secretary to the East German Mission of the Church of Latter Day Saints in Berlin, Germany. In 1951, he immigrated to the USA and entered the University of Utah, where he graduated in 1953 with a B.S. degree in Accounting. He was united in marriage with Ruth Larisch on September 3, 1954 where the couple made their home in Salt Lake City. Heinz taught mathematics at West High School, SLC. 1966 through 1970, the couple served in the Navajo Lutheran Mission in Rock Point, AZ as teachers. In 1971, they relocated to Albuquerque, NM where Heinz worked as an accountant until his retirement in 1985. He became a member of Cross of Hope Lutheran Church and enjoyed many friendships there. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of 54 years, and relatives in Germany. Services for Heinz will be held on November 7, 2008 at 2:00 p.m., at Cross of Hope Lutheran Church located at 6104 Taylor Ranch Rd NW.
