Obituary for HILTBRUNNER

Walter Hiltbrunner, 81, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM since 1971, died October 25, 2008 at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, NM. Proudly serving his country as Merchant Marine then enlisting in the Navy, he traveled the world, honorably discharged in 1954 with a rank of EM1. A professional electrician, he excelled in many areas. His passion was astronomy, building not only telescopes but observatories to house them while photographing and recording the heavens. He spent half his life in Westwood and Greenwood Lake, NJ, later relocating to NM. He is survived by nephews, David Hefti of Largo, FL, Dennis Hefti of Lincoln, MT, Al Hiltbrunner of Madera, CA; nieces, Barbara Rowlenson of Columbia, SC, Allyne Holub of Corona, CA, Edna Watts of North Haldon, NJ and Audrey Johnson of Crystal River, FL; and many numerous great nieces and nephews. An advocate for animals he supported the USPCA and numerous Humane Societies across the country. A reception honoring Walt's life will be held Thursday, October 30, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Westside Chapel.
