Obituary for MCMASTER

John Bruce, age 90, a resident of Albuquerque from 1949 to 1952 and since 1955, was called home to be with the Lord on October 11, 2008. He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, April 12, 1918. John married Lois Irene Dils on August 29, 1940. He began his World War II service as a reserve Second Lieutenant of infantry, following which he went through pilot training and finished the war as a flying training squadron commander. Following the Korean War, he resigned his commission as a Major (Senior Pilot) from the United States Air Force to accept a position with the former Atomic Energy Commission in Albuquerque, retiring in June 1975 as Chief, Organization and Management Branch. During his three years of service at Kirtland Air Force Base (1950-53), he served successively as Commander, Headquarters Squadron, 81st Air Base Group, and Chief, Training Division, Air Force Special Weapons Command. Since returning to Albuquerque, he was a member of Gideon's International, and the Hoffmantown Baptist Church where he served in the prayer room. John was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Lois. She was the love and joy of his life. He is survived by his son, Bruce McMaster; daughters, Vicki McFall and Wendy Orr and her husband Charles; grandchildren, Wendy McFall, Shannon Rhoades, and her husband, Courtney, Jesse Orr and wife Marta, Jennifer Orr and John Orr; great-grandsons, Jonathan McFall and Tristan Zottneck; and great-granddaughters, Kathryn McFall, Kirstyn and Ashley Rhoades, all of Albuquerque. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Thursday, October 16, 2008, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel.
